Ryan Howard

Dr. Ryan Howard is the medical director of the inpatient Palliative Medicine Service at Kaweah Health, as well as the medical director of Kaweah Health Hospice. He is a graduate of the UCSF Fresno Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship and continues to serve as a volunteer faculty member in the community. Prior to fellowship, his residency level training was in Family Medicine at the University of Arizona after which time he pursued hospital-based medicine as a hospitalist in the Central Valley of California. He is currently board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and successfully achieved the Certificate of Added Qualification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He has also achieved certification through the Hospice Medical Director Certification Board. His interest in bioethics stems from his experiences in direct patient care. Frequently, the population of patients living with serious illness and the families who care for them present with complex circumstances that are best considered through the lens of bioethics. The principles of bioethics provide a standardized framework which help to contextualize the various competing factors for clinicians while striving to provide the highest quality care.
