Nurse, mom, wife, blogger - Band-Aids and Bedtime Stories
Hi! I'm Sallie—a 37-year-old full-time wife, mom, WCC nurse, and part-time blogger. I work full-time for a mobile wound care clinic, and I love having the autonomy to make my own schedule. I've always been someone who loves to read and listen to audiobooks. It's my form of self-care. When I became pregnant with my first daughter, I was just like most new moms: scared to death. I had no idea what I was doing, what to expect, or where to even begin with what a baby needed! My mom was great in helping me learn, but the internet was a lifesaver, too. That’s when I got really into reading parenting blogs and listening to podcasts. They helped me feel more comfortable with the idea of becoming a new mom and reassured me that it was okay not to have all the answers. Oh, and did I mention I was in nursing school at the time too? Yeah, I used the internet to help me with that as well. I found some great blogs to follow during school and after graduation. But I noticed there weren’t many blogs dedicated to moms and wives working as nurses. I thought, "This is crazy! There has to be a market for nurses who are struggling with raising their toddlers just like I am." That thought bounced around in my head for about 18 months. I’d talk to my husband about it, and he was always so supportive. Finally, one day, I signed myself up for a blog site and an Instagram. Then, I literally ignored it for two months. But the idea kept nagging at me, and I knew I had to start the blog! I knew there was a community of moms working in healthcare who needed an ally. Someone to tell them it’s totally okay to be exhausted after work and not want to have their kids jumping on them. An ally who has the same mom guilt and has missed major milestones in their kids' lives while working 12-hour shifts. The blog may be fairly new, but I’m already starting to build this community, and I love watching it grow every day.
