Palliative Medicine/Chaplaincy Manager - Kaweah Health Medical Center
My work history has included a blend of clinical and administrative experiences. This has been by design as I feel it is essential to remain attuned to the clinical needs of those we serve to be an effective leader. The first half of my career was spent in the psychiatric field. Upon graduation from graduate school, I worked in direct service clinical positions in community mental health centers serving children and adults with mental health conditions in which I was able to hone my clinical skills and prepare for licensure. After becoming licensed, I held a number of leadership positions in outpatient and inpatient settings in which I provided clinical as well as administrative supervision and program development. These programs were typically new, innovative and designed to serve previously under-served populations. Each held particular challenges in integrating progressive concepts into established systems. I feel I found my true professional home when I began my work in palliative care. This work offers for me what has been a fascinating blend of psychiatry and medicine. Combined with the complex challenges in serving as Chair of our Bioethics Committee for several years and most recently having the privilege of working more closely with our Spiritual Support Team, this work has afforded me wonderful opportunities for personal and professional growth. I look forward to many years of continued contribution in this important work. Thank you!
